Today, February 1st, marks a special milestone—my Yorkie, Rosie, turns 18! Many of you know her as my loyal companion on wildlife photography trips. For nearly two decades, she has been by my side, offering companionship and comfort on countless adventures. While she’s not snapping photos, she brings her own kind of magic to every trip.
Rosie’s Role in My Adventures
- Keeping Me Grounded – When I get caught up tracking wildlife, Rosie snoozing in the truck reminds me to slow down and enjoy the experience. She keeps me present in the moment.
- Bringing Pure Joy – She’s a reminder that these outings aren’t just about capturing the perfect shot. They’re about fully experiencing nature.
- A Loyal Companion – No matter the conditions—hot, cold, or wet—Rosie has been there. Her presence provides a sense of comfort and routine, making even the toughest days feel a little easier.
More Than Just a Travel Companion
Rosie may not carry gear or frame a shot, but her presence is invaluable. She makes every expedition more meaningful, proving that the best adventures aren’t just about the destination—they’re about the company you keep. Whether it’s waiting patiently as I line up a shot or offering a cheerful greeting after a long day outdoors, she is always there to share in the moment.
Beyond photography trips, Rosie has also been a beloved companion in everyday life. From long walks in the woods to quiet evenings at home, her companionship has made every moment more special. Her unwavering loyalty and gentle spirit have been a source of inspiration and joy.
Looking Ahead
Maybe one day Rosie will find her own way to engage with the wildlife around her, but for now, she watches intently from her perch in the truck—ears perked at the sound of rustling leaves and eyes following every movement with curiosity. Even if she never chases a shot, she’ll always be an essential part of my journey.
As she enters this remarkable stage of life, I treasure every moment with her even more. Each adventure, big or small, is another memory to cherish. Whether she’s napping in the truck, trotting alongside me, or simply offering a reassuring presence, she continues to make every day better.

What a sweet picture of you and Rosie. I hope she is with you for a long time. I always have larger dogs and they only are around for 11 or 12 years. My pet is now 4 years old. They are good to have around for company. Enjoy your time together.
