Marbled Orb Weaver Spider On Leaf

I photographed this Marbled Orb Weaver Spider on a leaf (11-24-2018). The leaf was on the forest floor and I spotted it while hiking the Ouachita National Forest here in Arkansas.

There are several hundred eggs in Marbled Orb Weaver Spider Egg cocoons. They are generally deposited in October. The egg cocoons are constructed of white silk formed in a flattened sphere. Young spiders emerge from the cocoons in spring. I see these spiders from midsummer until the first hard freeze of fall.

Wildflower With Spider Eating An Insect

I spotted a spider on this wildflower while walking around with my camera. I was on a county road near the Ouachita National Forest here in Arkansas. If you look close you can see that the spider is feeding on a tiny insect.

How I Got The Shot – Wildflower With Spider

I was hand holding my Canon EOS 7D Mark II Camera with the Canon EF 100 – 400 mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens. I was shooting in aperture priority mode (AV) with a shutter speed of 1/800 of a second at f6.3 and the ISO at 800. White Balance set on auto. I was using single point, continuous auto focus with evaluative metering.

Note:

After posting this blog post to Facebook I was told that this flower is a BrownEyed Susan.

The Brown–Eyed Susan is a species of flowering plant in the sunflower family. It is usually seen in old fields or along roadsides.
