The dragonfly emerges after the nymph crawls out of the water and attaches itself to a nearby plant.
I was parked on the side of the auto tour road at the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma photographing a Barred Owl. This exoskeleton was near the road, so I got out of my pick-up to get this photo while hand-holding my camera and lens.
