Update on Eastern Bluebirds Nesting in My Yard

At the end of June, I shared a post titled Eastern Bluebirds Begin Again After Nest Loss where I described how one pair of Eastern Bluebirds had started a new nesting cycle after losing their earlier brood. I’m happy to report that things seem to be going well this time around.

Nesting Progress

The female Eastern Bluebird has been sitting steadily on her eggs. I’ve noticed her leave the nest occasionally, but she always returns within a few minutes. The male has been active too, bringing food to her every now and then. He’s also staying alert and doing his part to protect the nest. I’ve seen him chase away other birds that come too close to the birdhouse.

Behavior at the Birdhouse

Today’s photo captures a moment that made me smile. The female poked her head out of the nest box after another bird landed on the roof. She scanned the area, decided there was no threat, and quickly disappeared back inside. Moments like this remind me just how attentive and cautious these birds can be, especially when they’re incubating eggs.

Second Nest Box Also in Use

It appears that the second pair of Eastern Bluebirds I mentioned in Eastern Bluebird Nest Boxes Both Now in Use is also moving along well. I believe that female is sitting on eggs too, although she stays hidden much of the time. It’s exciting to think that both nest boxes might be home to successful broods in just a few weeks.

Final Thoughts

Everything points to a positive nesting season so far. Both pairs of bluebirds are showing strong parental instincts, and I’m hopeful these nests will produce healthy fledglings soon. I’ll continue to monitor and share updates as the season progresses.
