On the early morning of July 23, I had yet another exciting encounter with the coyote pups at Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. Shortly after sunrise, I spotted one of the coyote pups in the same field where I had seen them before. This time, however, the pup didn’t come up to my truck. Instead, it crossed the auto tour road behind my pickup and disappeared into the nearby cornfield.
Two Pups, One Morning
There were actually two coyote pups spotted that morning. They were several yards apart, each seemingly engrossed in catching grasshoppers. I managed to get some photos of the first pup in the field and as it crossed the road. The second pup remained in the field, and I got a few shots of it too before it moved further into the field.
Growth and Recognition
It’s incredible to see how much these pups have grown in just a week. On July 15, I shared photos and a video of an adult coyote with four pups in this area. I also wrote another post about a single coyote pup that walked right up to my pickup on July 18. While I can’t be certain if the pups I saw on July 23 are the same ones from my previous encounters, their rapid growth is unmistakable.

Final Thoughts
Each visit to the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge brings new surprises and insights into the lives of these fascinating creatures. The opportunity to observe and photograph the coyote pups in their natural habitat is truly special. As they grow and become more independent, each sighting feels like a unique chapter in their journey.
Stay tuned for more updates and photos as I continue to follow the lives of these remarkable coyotes.

Wonderful photos! (And great job focusing between the grass blades – that has defeated me, every time!)
Thank you!
