I came across another roadside coyote hunting at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. After several encounters during this visit, I was glad to have another chance to photograph one.
Roadside Coyote Hunting in the Southwest Corner
I spotted this coyote near the road in the far southwest corner of the refuge. I stayed inside my truck and photographed it among the thick roadside plants.
In the side view, the coyote holds its head low as it moves through the vegetation. Its long body and bushy tail remain visible above the cover, while the plants hide much of its legs.

A Direct Look and a Sunlit Portrait
The coyote also looked toward me, giving me a clear view of its face. In that photograph, its ears stand upright and its mouth is open.

My favorite of these three photographs shows warm light across its face and coat. The soft background leaves fewer distractions around the coyote. I like the detail in its fur and the slight turn of its head.

Several Coyotes With Little Apparent Fear
I shared some of my other sightings in Wichita Mountains Coyotes: Portraits During My Latest Stay.
Several coyotes I encountered during this visit seemed unafraid of me. I don’t know why they showed so little concern, but I noticed it with more than one animal.
I’m not complaining! Those encounters gave me chances to photograph coyotes that I appreciated. This time, I came away with a hunting view and two portraits to share.
