I was back on my deck the other morning, camera in hand, patiently waiting to capture the perfect shot of the Eastern Bluebirds busy building their nest. Suddenly, a familiar flash of rusty fur caught my eye. It was my resident Fox Squirrel, casually strolling across a nearby tree limb.
This isn’t the first time this curious critter has graced my lens. In fact, I’ve shared photos of her lounging on this very same branch before (Fox Squirrel Lounging in My Backyard). It seems this particular limb is her personal sunbathing spot! Interestingly, there used to be a birdhouse hanging from it. Since it seemed to constantly be in her way (or perhaps she was constantly in the way of potential bird tenants!), I decided to relocate it.
Today, however, she seemed to be on a mission to entertain. The first photo shows her perched regally on the branch, with her head on the limb and tilted at a comical angle. The second one? Well, let’s just say it looks like she’s giving the tree trunk a friendly boop with her nose! Honestly, you have to admit, it looks an awful lot like she’s striking a pose for the camera.
There’s a male Fox Squirrel that hangs around occasionally, but unlike his fearless counterpart, he seems much too camera-shy to join in on the fun. Maybe next time! In the meantime, I’m thoroughly enjoying this furry little performer’s antics. Who knows what surprise she’ll have in store for me next time I step out on the deck?
