Funny Rabbit Standing Across the Road

I stepped out on my deck to get some fresh air and sip my morning coffee. The fog was lifting. Everything was still and quiet. Then I saw it.

Rabbit standing on hind legs reaching through a barbed wire fence to eat leaves.
This determined rabbit stood on its hind legs to reach tender leaves growing just past a barbed wire fence.

A rabbit stood tall on his hind legs across the road. This furry little character had spotted premium leaves growing just past my neighbor’s barbed wire fence. However, these weren’t just any leaves. These were the good stuff. The top-shelf greens.

Perfectly good grass grew everywhere around him. But no. This rabbit demanded the premium stuff. The leaves that required Olympic-level stretching to reach.

Funny Rabbit Standing for a Stretch

This guy went full circus performer for breakfast. He stretched higher than seemed physically possible for a creature his size. Additionally, he kept perfect balance while defying gravity.

The bottom strand of barbed wire sat right at neck level. One wrong move and this breakfast mission could turn tragic. But did our hero care? Not one bit.

He reminded me of someone reaching for cookies on the top kitchen shelf. Except with more fur and higher stakes.

Of course, I grabbed the camera.

These moments remind me why I keep my camera ready during coffee time. Wildlife provides better entertainment than most TV shows. The rabbit standing on hind legs delivered pure physical comedy.

He finally snagged enough leaves to satisfy his elevated taste buds. Then he hopped away.

I finished my coffee wondering what tomorrow’s wildlife comedy special might bring.

Photo Tip

Always keep a camera nearby, especially during the early morning hours. Wildlife tends to be most active then, and soft light can help bring out the details in fur and feathers.

It’s moments like these that remind me why I keep watch from this deck. You never know what animals are up to. One day it’s four armadillo pups visiting like they’re on a school field trip. Another day it’s a funny rabbit stretching up like it’s reaching for a top-shelf snack.

Wildlife Humor: Rabbits Will Do Anything for a Snack

This rabbit could’ve just found lower snacks, but no. It risked everything for those sweet top leaves. I respect that.
