Yesterday morning brought another exciting milestone in my backyard wildlife observations: more Eastern Bluebird chicks hatched! After closely following the nesting progress, I was thrilled to see the parents actively bringing food to the birdhouse again.
If you missed the earlier update, you can read the previous post here: Update on Eastern Bluebirds Nesting in My Yard.
Male Eastern Bluebird on Duty

I captured a photo of the male Eastern Bluebird perched on top of the birdhouse with a fresh insect in his beak. He paused just long enough for me to snap a shot before diving into the nest box to feed the newly hatched chicks. His bright blue plumage stood out beautifully against the soft green background.
The Female Stays Close
The female spent most of her time inside the nest box. She only came out for quick breaks to stretch and grab food. This behavior is normal for newly hatched bluebird chicks.
The babies need constant warmth in their first days. The female provides that by brooding them in the nest. She also helps feed them.
Waiting on the Second Birdhouse
My second nest box shows no hatching activity yet. The female is still sitting on her eggs. This pair started nesting later than the first, so their timing makes sense.
I expect those chicks to hatch within the next few days. The incubation period for Eastern bluebirds runs 11 to 14 days. Everything looks good so far.
Daily Observations Continue
Every day brings something new during bluebird nesting season. I plan to continue documenting the development of these young birds, from feeding routines to their first days out of the nest.
Final Thoughts
It’s a joy to witness such intimate moments of bird life right in my own yard. I’ll be sharing more updates and photos as the story of these Eastern Bluebirds continues to unfold.
Stay tuned for the next chapter, and fingers crossed for a successful hatch in the second birdhouse!
Such exciting news about your bluebird families! I really hope that they can get through the rest of the season without any hitches (or hawks) this time.
