On May 6, 2025, I had another memorable moment while following the story of the solo female Eastern Bluebird. It was a rainy afternoon when I photographed her continuing her dedicated routine, bringing insects back to the nest box to feed her growing chicks.
What made this moment special was that, for the first time, one of the young Bluebirds poked its head out of the birdhouse to be fed. I captured a photo of this touching interaction between the hardworking mother and her chick as she delivered food at the nest entrance.

Bluebird Chick Feeding Signs at the Nest
This is the first visual confirmation I’ve had of the chicks inside the nest. The young bird looks healthy and alert, a clear sign that the mother’s efforts are paying off. Despite raising them entirely on her own, she has kept them nourished and safe, an incredible accomplishment under these circumstances.
Watching the chick peek out into the rainy world felt like a milestone in this ongoing story. It’s likely we’re approaching the fledging stage soon. I’ll continue to monitor their progress and document each new development.
Seeing the chick lean out into the rainy world marked an exciting turning point in this nesting story. Moments like this show how quickly the chicks are growing and how close they are to taking their first flight. I’ll continue keeping watch and sharing updates as this remarkable journey unfolds just outside my door.
