Spring can make a yard feel alive in every corner. This Potato Dandelion With Insect caught my attention in Lavaca, Arkansas, on April 28, 2023.
A small dark insect had settled near the center of the yellow bloom. That simple scene was enough to make me stop and take a closer look.

Potato Dandelion With Insect in Spring Light
The flower stood out because of its bright yellow color and clean shape. Its narrow petals spread outward from the center, giving the bloom a strong pattern.
The insect added the part I liked most. It gave the photo a small wildlife moment without needing a larger subject.
I did not identify the insect from this photo. I would rather leave it unnamed than guess.
The scene came from my yard during spring. That setting matters to me because small subjects like this are easy to overlook. A yard can hold plenty of life when I slow down and look closely.
Photographing a Small Yard Scene at 500mm
I photographed this flower with a long lens. The 500mm focal length helped separate the bloom from the soft background.
The insect was small, so I needed enough shutter speed to hold detail. I also used f/10 to keep more of the flower and insect in focus.

Why This Spring Bloom Caught My Eye
This was not a dramatic wildlife encounter. It was a quiet yard scene with a flower, an insect, and good spring color.
That is what I liked about it.
Wildlife photography is not always about large animals or rare moments. Sometimes it is about noticing the small things already close to home.
