The Pileated Woodpecker is one of the most difficult birds for me to photograph. Most of the time when I see one it is in thick woods and stays hidden behind the branches.

A beautiful bird and setting with fall colors make a GREAT photo. I love the stunning contrast in this and other woodpeckers with the bright red, against the black and white. Awesome Creator is my God!!!
Fabulous shots Steve – There is one that hangs around here but it’s always come and gone before I can get the camera out – so these are special photos… simply beautiful.
Excelent shots!!!Salut!!!

They are a very cautious bird, so to get these photos is amazing, but then that’s why I come to your site every day, anticipation of being amazed! Especially love the one eating berries, in 15 years of having one on our property I never captured him eating. Thumbs up Steve!!!
Fantastic images! I too have had a very difficult time trying to get a decent photo of these cautious, amazing looking woodpeckers. I hear them often and see them from a great distance, but have never been able to get a good shot. Both images are terrific but I am especially fond of the berry eating photo.
Awesome photos! Yes I agree..very difficult to photograph.
