Steve Creek Wildlife Photography

I’m Steve Creek, a wildlife photographer based in Arkansas.
Most mornings, I’m in the field. I spend a lot of time at Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma, along with nearby creeks, prairies, forests, and my own backyard. I photograph wildlife where I encounter it, from refuge roads and trails to feeder perches close to home.
My focus is on natural behavior. I don’t bait, stage, or interfere with wildlife. If an animal changes its behavior because of my presence, I back off. The goal is to observe and document what’s already happening, not to create a moment that wouldn’t exist otherwise.
This site is where I share both the photographs and the observations behind them. You’ll find images of native wildlife, field notes from individual visits, and photography notes that explain real-world conditions in the field. I include the quiet periods, changing light, missed opportunities, and decisions that shape each encounter.
You don’t need to be a photographer to enjoy what’s here. If you enjoy watching wildlife and learning how animals move through their environment, these notes will feel familiar. If you are a photographer, you’ll also find practical insight into how patience, positioning, and restraint matter just as much as camera settings.
You can start here:
- Recent wildlife encounters and field notes
- Photo galleries organized by species and location
- Practical photography tips based on real field conditions
Photography has slowed the way I move through the world. It’s taught me to notice small changes, repeated behaviors, and moments most people pass by. My goal is to share that perspective and encourage a deeper appreciation for the wildlife living around us every day.
“Every photo is a conversation with the wild, what do you hear?”
