Butterflies On Animal Scat

Some butterfly species do not only feed on nectar. They like decayed fruit, tree sap, animal scat (feces) and carrion as well.

In the United States dragonflies are sought out as a hobby similar to birding and butterflying, known as oding. Oding, from the dragonfly’s Latin species name, odonata. Oding is especially popular in Texas. With care, dragonflies can be handled and released by Oders, unlike butterflies.

Scissor-tailed Flycatcher

The Scissor-tailed Flycatcher should be leaving Arkansas soon and migrating through Texas and eastern Mexico to their winter non-breeding range, from southern Mexico to Panama. Pre-migratory roosts and flocks flying south may contain as many as 1,000 birds.
