No one knows why the Mockingbird does the “wing flash”, but my guess is it does it to startle insects.

For years experts didn’t give the animal kindgom credit for being so smart and many still don’t. I think you are right about the mockingbird scaring up their dinner. I agree with Eric, amazing, your patience and observation pay off once more. You go Steve!
