I noticed that if a Snowy Egret picks up bait fish that someone has left behind on the ground, it will take it to the water to wash it. My guess is that it is trying to get it slimy again so that it is easier to swallow. What do you think?

Neat observation Steve, and fantastic photos.
Thank you Dan!
Yes, I would think it would be too dry as it was, I do the same thing with pills I give my dog, lol, dip them in water, then down the hatch, lol.
Cool behavior photographs, Steve! You assumption sounds correct.
Thanks Bonnie and Julie!
GULP!! Maybe they are clean freaks too.
Maybe Judi”
..that’s is what makes your work stand out.. you have a feel for the critters and nature…there are great photographers, but you not only have that talent, but you also have the instinct, heart, and awe for what you photograph. So many can “look” without really “seeing”…
Thank you so much! You made my day!
Makes sense, Steve. Where were you perched to get these nice shots? Did the egret know you were there?
These were taken at an Arkansas Dam near where I live. They are use to the people that fish at the dam so they are easy to get close to.
