Lots Of Pelicans And Gulls On The Arkansas River

During this time of year I head to the Robert S Kerr Lock And Dam 15 in Oklahoma to photograph the American White Pelicans and Gulls. This area has an abundance of birds as you can see in the photograph below.

Yesterdays morning temperature was 24F but the bird action is so amazing that I don’t pay much attention to the cold. The birds were feeding on shad and trying to photograph these birds catching them test my skills.

I sit in the rocks just below the dam and get as close to the water as I can. The birds don’t pay me much attention so I usually get some great closeup photos. You can even get by with using a 200mm lens which I may bring on my next trip. (I was using my Canon 100-400.)

I challenge you to find a Little Gull in that swarm. Hahaha. I can sit there for hours, with a lunch from Wildhorse bbcue.
