Keep An Eye Out For Fledglings

A Mourning Dove Fledgling In The Grass

A Close Look At A Mourning Dove Fledgling

An American Robin Fledgling In A Tree

Every year I have a close call with a Mourning Dove Fledgling. Last year I found one under my riding lawn mower (A Lucky Mourning Dove Fledgling).

This year I almost didn’t see another one while mowing because it blended in so well with the pine cones I have in my yard.

The American Robin Fledgling was also in my yard but it flew up into a nearby tree when I got near it with my mower.

I saw a fledgling out in the middle of a busy road yesterday….I was able to slow down in time for him to hop back over to the side of street into the grass. Thank goodness. :)

Keeping an eye out for fledglings is a great thing Steve, many young birds hunker down when they are frightened and could easily get in the way of a mower.

Ahhhh. We have baby cardinals, baby woodpeckers and baby hawks right now. They are all fledging at the same time, which is pretty dangerous for the smaller birds …. and for us. The adult hawks like to attack anything they think might be a threat to their babies.

Great shots and good eye Steve… swallow fledglings just launch themselves into the air and boom their acrobats as I watched the other day – but a lot of babies have to spend at least 24 hours on the ground… certainly robins and bluebirds do, and despite parents hovering to warn and encourage, often they don’t make it – so it’s great when we all take care and have a watchful eye.
