It was a nice surprise to see this Hummingbird Clearwing already working the flowers.

Steve, at first I thought that was a bee. I have never seen one of these. I have a ruby throated hummingbird at my house.
That looks like a bug And not a hummingbird.
A Hummingbird Clearwing is a moth
Thanks for clearing that up, didn’t think it was a hummingbird, but wasn’t sure. Have never seen one, do they hover & dart like a hummingbird, or fly more like a moth?
They fly just like a hummingbird! Cool to watch!
Wow, nice shot. I also thought it was in the bee family. Never saw one of these before.
I really enjoyed your trip to Yellowstone. I spent my high school years in Casper, Wyo. and grew up in Montana, so your trip took me back to my roots for awhile.
Great photos. Thank you.
Great shots Steve ! They are different then our Europeans
but I think they also difficult to shot !
Fab shots Steve! I saw my first one of the year earlier this week – got a shot of him but it wasn’t a good one
LOVE yours!!
Magnificent series!!! They’re certainly fuzzy, are they?
Thanks for the trip to Yellowstone Steve. I think we all enjoyed it. This moth had me fooled as well. I have never seen one. Probably not here in So. Cal.
Thanks everyone and yes Kimberley they are fuzzy.
I am a little slow at looking at these pics. They are beautiful…. great job!
