I spent the past weekend at the Buffalo National River here in Arkansas and what an amazing time to view the Elk.
I was only able to see Four Bull Elk when I first arrived in the Boxley Valley area near Ponca Saturday morning. They did a lot of sparring but they were in a low spot which made it difficult to get any good photos. I came back later in the afternoon and saw several Cow Elk and one nice Bull Elk.
Sunday morning was a different story. The Elk seemed to be everywhere in large numbers. I located the two above Bulls and was able to get some great photos. Just before they left the field, the two Bulls did some light sparring.

This must have been wonderful to observe and photograph Steve. They are such handsome creatures.
Thanks Mia! It was a great weekend. The mornings were cold and my fingers were frozen but it was well worth it.
Great Elk shots Steve. Such lovely animals.
Thank you Kim!
Looks like a great time!
I visited Yellowstone when I was much younger and lived in Montana. I must of enraged one bull because he chased me back to my car and was scraping his antlers on the window! Hearing a elk bugle is just a spine tingling experience!
Wow Linda! I’m glad you were not hurt in that encounter. My favorite time is when they are bugling.
I live in Jackson Hole, but am from Arkansas! I love seeing these pics of elk there!!
Arkansas is some busy wildlife state..who knew! Be careful out there..
