Chipmunk Greeting Me Along The Trail

A Chipmunk

A Chipmunk checking me out as I walk by

These little Chipmunks always seem to be greeting me as I pass by them while hiking the trails here in Wyoming.

These animals are active during the day and eat seeds, berries, nuts, fruits and insects.

They breed in early spring. Females produce one litter usually of 5 or 6 young.

They store food in an underground burrow, where they spend the winter. These animals go into a state of torpor for extended periods of time, but do not hibernate.

Cute little guy, a lot more gregarious than the ones around here. I’m lucky to catch a glimpse of one they are so shy and FAST.

Nice shot Steve. Funny how no matter how slow I move, the chipmunks squeak and run from me, just the squirrels will hang out and watch me.
