Blue Jay At My Feeders

There is a pronounced crest on the head, a crown of feathers, which may be raised or lowered according to the Blue Jay’s mood. When excited or aggressive, the crest may be fully raised. When frightened, the crest bristles outwards, brush-like. When the bird is feeding among other jays or resting, the crest is flattened to the head.

This Blue Jay photo was taken at one of my feeders.

Beautiful Shots. I love looking at the feet of so many of your birds. I always thought they held on really tight, your photo usually show them barely hanging on. Looks like they are balancing on the lower legs instead. Always something new to learn thru your work (passion) Steve. Thanks. Judi

I am always amazed that the range of blue and purple hues in a “blue” bird. Great shot!

I remember the Blue Jays in the mountains when we went camping. Bigger, very aggressive, would swipe food from our table. But I loved it. I guess that’s the behavior of a “campground” Blue Jay. They sure are beautiful. Thank for the memories.

Hi Steve, Beautiful Blue Jay. I’ve had probably three times more jays this winter than usual. One of my favorite birds. Thanks for sharing. Peggy
