Arkansas Backyard Birds – House Finch

By | November 23, 2013

The House Finch is one of the most common birds that show up at my bird feeders here at my home in Arkansas. They are also very aggressive and drive other birds away from the feeders, even the House Sparrow.

Something that I read on Wikipedia is that dandelion seeds are among the preferred seeds fed to the young. I have so many dandelions in my yard each year so maybe this is one of the reasons I have so many.

House Finches are one of the few birds who feed their young only plant matter.

Thank you Barbara! They are fun to watch. I watched them this past summer feeding the young from my feeders. That was great to see.

We have quite a few of these little guys. I had no idea they were aggressive with House Sparrows even! It would have been really fun to watch them feed their babies from your feeder!
I really do wish you could send us a Cardinal or two, though! 😉
