A Snowy Egret Churning Water

A Snowy Egret Churning Water

I’m not sure why this Snowy Egret was churning water with its bill. I know that ducks do this to stir up sediment for food. If anyone can educate me just leave a comment below.

The Egrets eat fish, crustaceans, insects and small reptiles. They stalk prey in shallow water, often running or shuffling their feet, flushing prey into view, as well “dip-fishing” by flying with their feet just over the water. Snowy Egrets may also stand still and wait to ambush prey, or hunt for insects stirred up by domestic animals in open fields.

Wonderful action image Steve. Snowy Egrets use thier feet to stir up prey in the water, perhaps they also do it by using their bills.
