One of my most requested photos are the ones I took back in April of 2009 of a Raccoon Feeling For Food. Every chance I get I try and get better photos of a Raccoon searching for food in the water. I took these back the first part of this month at the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma.

great shots!
Thanks Steve!
Love the light on these. Fantastic captures Steve!
Great lighting, great capture of the intensity of it’s search. Your pictures show their gentleness & beauty, but anyone who has ever come upon a racoon also knows the fierceness they can display too. Good start to my day. Thanks!
Thanks to you both!
Nice to see the racoon in that setting, Steve. We have racoons in Saskatchewan expanding their range northward, but they are seldom seen.
Thanks Scott! Raccoons are very abundant here in our area.
My favorite little critter! Love these, great photographs. I spend hours/days/weeks looking out for these little guys when on vacation in Fl.
Steve,
I am currently in a battle with a mother raccoon and 3 babies. They nightly raid my bird feeders. They even came around back 1 morning and tried to run me out of the pool where I was exercising. They came within about 4ft of me. They are very cute, but a real problem for my birds.
Very intense search reflected in those eyes. I don’t usually see them out and about during the day. You’ve got an incredible knack for finding animals doing interesting things.
Thanks! The main reason I am able to see as much as I do is because I can spend so much time outdoors.
I’m in favor of seeing them in a creek. I’m not in favor of seeing their behind in the air as they dig through my trash. I’ve gotten quite good at trapping them. Never dreamed it would be one of my talents. They’re adorable but pesky!
