I got on my riding mower to start it and just before I turned the key I had a Mourning Dove fly out from under it. This adult dove seemed to be hurt by the way it was trying to fly. I walked toward the dove and this time it seemed to fly a lot better. I went back to my mower and was about to start it again but for some reason I thought I needed to check under the mower. This is when I discover a fledgling still hiding under the mower blade. When it saw me it flew out from under the mower.

Yikes! I’m glad your two Mourning Doves are okay. I hope they pick a better resting place next time.
Thanks Julie and me too! Now I will be checking under my mower before I mow.
Great photos of the lucky pair – these are not the smartest birds in the avian world… a friend of mine calls them Norma Jeans… But terrific you found them in time Steve. Reminds me of mowing my lawns and watching for tiny frogs – there seem to be a surplus this summer, jumping out of my way… feathers and frogs… what a combination for lawn mowers.
Barbara, I have also seen a large number of frog this year: http://stevecreek.com/unusual-amount-of-frogs/
Wow, Steve. What sweet, scruffy little guys. Glad you saw this latest one in time.
These are just too precious and what a great story. I especially like the 2nd one all snuggled down in the grass.
Lucky little dove! Great shots!!
Guess God not only watches over the sparrows but also the doves. My sister in Ceder Key, Fl. said last year there were so many tiny frogs crossing the wooded area she lives in that they totally covered the road for several days. They could not drive to town without killing thousands, so they stayed home.
Use the mower much?
Both doves are fortunate.
Thanks everyone for the great comments.
Great shots grandpa !
Thank you Ashley!
