How lucky am I to drive up on a Great Horned Owl when it has just caught a gopher on the road. Check back for tomorrows photos and see how lucky I really am.

Great set!
Wow! Great shots Steve……I have yet to photograph an owl.
Lisa, be sure to check tomorrow for an even closer look at this Great Horned Owl. This was the first time for me to be able to photograph one. I always hear them at night.
Outstanding
Wow! Everyone was lucky except for the gopher!! Great series! Looking forward to tomorrow’s shots.
Again, lucky is a function of being prepared. Great shots, Steve. I’ve been enjoying our great horned owls lately as well. Fascinating big birds. Looking forward to your next post.
WOW Steve. NOW I understand the excitement. These are great, except for the poor little gopher. #1 is my favorite. He’s posing for you. Of course, we all know that wouldn’t be a first.
Superb captures, Steve! We’ve seen Great Horned Owls up in the trees but always obscured by limbs. To see one out in the open like this must have been quite a treat. I most definitely will not miss tomorrow post!
WOW… great shot, can’t wait to see what else you got… I’ll be back tomorrow for sure.
Agree with Beverly re everyone being lucky except the gopher. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s pics.
Great series Steve!

Thank you for sharing with us! I dream of nature photographing. Perhaps, I should try. It would never be as good as your photos but it would make me happy.
Thanks Karin and yes you should try!
Hello Steve Creek–
For perspective, how big is this owl?! Was it a baby gopher?
Your photos are spectacular
Thanks Sharon And they are from 18-27 inches and yes the gopher was full size.
