I guess this Beaver had robbed a nearby cornfield. (Taken at the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma)
Beaver are strict herbivores who do not hibernate. They eat the inner bark of trees during winter. During the growing season, they eat a variety of vegetation including various aquatic plants and the leaves and small twigs of many different kinds of trees. While they may ingest a small amount of wood as they eat, they cannot digest it readily and it is not what they are after. (North American Beaver)

Great shots. I’ve never seen a beaver eat corn.
Bon appétit
Awesome capture! He is so cute
These are absolutely priceless photos!! Must have been awesome to watch.
Are you sure your not baiting these photos?
)))))))))))))
You get some amazingly cool shots, time after time! Who knew beavers liked corn on the cob?
The things you see on your adventures are really amazing, I wonder if he will incorporate that cob into his dam? The lighting coming in from the left adds so much to these wonderful captures, gives off such warmth.
Was that desert do you think? What a series of photos – made me chuckle. I’ll think about those for days. Judi is right the light is fabulous, the sight so funny! Well done as usual Steve.
Thanks everyone for leaving such awesome comments! Robbie, I never would have thought of baiting Beavers with corn. Judi, after he finished the corn on the cob he left leaving the cob floating in the water. Barbara, I think that it was the Beavers bed time snack since the sun was coming up. I wonder how it would like popcorn?
Outstanding!! Nice catch!
Very nice captures, Steve!
Doesn’t look like he’s willing to share.
I have been trying to get a photograph of the beaver that has taken up residency in the creek close to my home. I love to watch them, so very busy. Your photograph is adorable…the beaver is just the cutest thing. Thanks for sharing…
Susan, thank you for leaving the comment. I am glad you like my photos. The Beavers are fun to watch and photograph. I like hanging around them because other wildlife are attracted to the Beaver Dam for some reason.
Now thats something new, a beaver eating corn. I didn’t know that they like corn.
Great photos, I love beavers!
Beautiful warm light!
Thank you!
Are beavers active during the day? The one dam I found has been taken over by some muskrats, with geese on top. I have located another lodge in the middle of a pond I found, does the beaver build his lodge in the middle? This lodge is in the middle, just havent been able to get back when the weather is clear.
I aslo didnt realize this, but muskrats build dams too, and create deep pools of blocked water. I have seen the couple work on it. They also chew sticks and are scraping the bark off the the bottom of trees. I am sure it is a muskrat.

Another question, do you use a hide?
Great timing Sue! I just photographed and did a video Saturday of 2 Beavers. I will catch them early in the morning heading back to the lodge. Here is a link to the video: http://youtu.be/fv9–YLGSkM
